Teaching and examination content
The teaching and examination content of the Advanced Soil Mechanics module includes:
Stress: effective stress, stress invariants and principal stresses; Critical State Soil Mechanics: dilatancy, failure, stress- and density-dependent stiffness; Cyclic/Dynamic: small strain stiffness, stiffness degradation curve, strain accumulation, liquefaction; Unsaturated soils: unsaturated soil behavior, soil-water-retention curve, permeability, stiffness and strength increase; Constitutive Modelling: role of constitutive models in geotechnical engineering, modelling frameworks, Mohr-Coulomb, Modified Cam Clay, Hardening Soil, introduction to Hypoplasticity
