Institut für Geotechnik
Here you will find all information about the courses offered at the Institute of Geotechnics.
Geotechnics deals with building with, in or on soil or rock. As a geotechnical engineer, you explore and describe the behaviour of soil and rock as a building material. For example, we analyse the subsoil on which the foundations are laid and we plan, dimension and supervise the construction of these foundations. We also design and build tunnels, earthworks of all kinds (e.g. transport infrastructure projects, dykes, dams) and excavation pits.
Geotechnics is thus a key area in structural engineering, but it also has very strong links to hydraulic engineering, environmental engineering, geology and mechanics.
The Institute of Geotechnics has set itself the goal of reflecting this diversity of the profession in the degree programme and offering students a holistic geotechnical education with great technical depth. As a result, students are ideally equipped to start their careers in engineering offices, (specialised civil engineering) construction companies, public authorities or science. The close links between our institute and industry guarantee the practical relevance of our work and enable students to start their careers quickly after graduation.
