How to find us

The Institute of Geotechnical Engineering is located in Institute Building 1 of the Department of Civil Engineering L5|01 on the Lichtwiese campus. Our address is Franziska-Braun-Straße 7, 64287 Darmstadt.

The offices are located in the centre of the 4th floor. The research centre is located in buildings L5|04 and L5|05.

When travelling by car, please note that all public car parks are subject to charges (€2.50 per day) from Monday to Friday (6:00 to 18:00). The car park ticket machines only accept coins and do not accept change.

  • A5 (Frankfurt – Heidelberg/ Basel) or A67 (Cologne/ Wiesbaden – Mannheim), exit ‘Darmstadt Stadtmitte’
  • Federal road B3
  • B 26 in the direction of the city centre (‘Rheinstraße’, ‘Cityring’, ‘Landgraf-Georg-Straße’, ‘Hanauer Straße’)
  • Turn right into ‘Heinrichstraße’
  • Turn left into ‘Eugen-Kogon-Straße’
  • Straight ahead into ‘Franziska-Braun-Straße’

Darmstadt is an ICE station and a stop for IC, EC and Interregio trains travelling north-south. In local public transport, Darmstadt is connected to the railway lines Frankfurt/Main – Heidelberg or Mannheim, Wiesbaden/Mainz – Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt – Erbach or Eberbach (Odenwald).

From the railway station, you can take the tram line 2 in the direction of ‘TU-Lichtwiese/Mensa’ to the terminus. Alternatively, you can take the bus line K to the Darmstadt Schloss stop and then change to the bus line L in the direction of ‘TU-Lichtwiese/Mensa’ and continue to the terminus ‘TU-Lichtwiese/Mensa’.

You can also take the Odenwaldbahn VIAs RB 81 to the TU-Lichtwiese stop.

Frankfurt Airport is 25 kilometres away. It can be reached by car/taxi in approx. 25 minutes via the A5 or A67 motorways or with the HEAG-Airliner shuttle bus (from Luisenplatz or Darmstadt main station).
